General information

The academic studies in forest industry were initiated in 1946 in Tartu University and later were continued until 1960 in Estonian Agricultural Academy (In 1991 the university was renamed Estonian Agricultural University and in 2005 Estonian University of Life Sciences). The teaching of the speciality of forest industry was restored in 1989 and the first group of specialists graduated in 1993. In 1992 a specialized department of forest industry was established. The task of the department is to carry out the teaching of the subjects related to the forest industry (forest technologies and machinery, wood processing, wood properties, energy wood utilization, bioenergy) and also research work in this field.
