About

Department mainly deals with Estonian forests and is particularly focused on disturbance, fire and wind-throw, effects on ecosystem development. For example, we deal with topics like soil respiration, influence of storm-induced microsites to tree regeneration patterns, advanced regeneration, shade tolerance, wood decay, wind-throw survival tree faith, eddy fluxes and carbon pool dynamics.

Department is also active internationally. Several scientists from Helsinki University Department of Forest Sciences are collaborating with the department. This collaboration has helped in research planning and Finnish colleges have been and are co-authors in many articles. We collaborate also with several other European, American and Canadian forest scientists, who are actively involved in our work. We are also more and more working with Japanese scientists. Some Japanese forest are similar to out Southern Boreal (Hemiboreal) forests.

For detailed overview of what we do go to see the CV's of our staff and PhD students. Dont hesitate to contact us.
