Chair of Energy Engineering

Estonian University of Life Sciences is the only university in Estonia whose priorities in academic and research activities provide the sustainable development of natural resources necessary for the existence of Mankind. The energy related research in the university´s Chair of Energy Engineering include, but are not limited to: energy data analysis, renewable energy generation (wind, solar and biomass), energy management, automation, energy efficient buildings and thermal energy. The Republic of Estonia has 100% coverage with smart electricity meters and the university is located in Tartu which has currently city districts retrofitted into smart districts.

Distributed energy generation and nearly zero energy buildings

Our research group works on the development of concepts for distributed power generation and on-site renewable energy supply for nearly zero energy buildings. We use high resolution energy datasets for the modelling of energy processes for example in the MatLab software package.
Additionally to the modelling our renewable energy and digital electronics laboratories enable practical measurements and experiments. The renewables laboratory has technical capabilities for wind and solar energy generation, storage, data acquisition, different load profiles and on-grid or off-grid operation regimes.
Currently we are involved as a partner in the ERDF project Estonian Centre of Excellence in Zero Energy and Resource Efficient Smart Buildings and Districts and have been a partner in H2020 projects like Panel2050.
We are interested in partnerships where we can offer our expertise in data analyticsremote metering, renewables, demand response and smart grids.
